Mastodons Face Golden Grizzlies on the Road

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The women's basketball team will face the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Saturday afternoon. Game time is now set for 3:00 p.m. This meeting marks the second time these programs have faced each other as Oakland won the first matchup of the year. The 'Dons are playing their travel partner on Saturday, meaning that they will have Monday night off.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
Oakland is 10-12 overall with a 6-7 mark in the Summit League. They enter Saturday's matchup on a three-game losing streak. The Golden Grizzlies most recently fell 64-61 on the road at IUPUI. They ran into a red hot Western Illinois team before that losing 86-53.
Bethany Watterworth is the number one option on the offensive end of the court for Oakland. Watterworth is averaging 19.2 points per contest. She has started in all 22 games and averages 32 minutes of action per game.
Oakland won the first matchup between these two programs back on January 14 by the final score of 67-47. Watterworth impacted the game with 22 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Joining Watterworth in double figure scoring was Brittany Carnago, Sharise Calhoun, and Malika Glover.
IPFW struggled from the floor in the first meeting shooting just 33 percent. Amanda Hyde scored a team-high 10 points and also grabbed four rebounds in the losing effort.

The Golden Grizzlies lead the all-time series 13-5. They defeated IPFW during the first meeting this season, yet the Mastodons have had recent success against Oakland. During the 2010-11 season the 'Dons defeated Oakland 72-60 at home and then ended up with a 70-55 road win against the Grizzlies on Feb. 12.
LAST TIME OUT
Four Mastodons reached double figure scoring on Monday night, but the IPFW defense weakened down the stretch giving the Leathernecks an 81-75 victory. The trio of Brittany Demery, Saule Kontautaite, and Sadie Webb led Western Illinois to their sixth conference win of the season. Demery scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds. She was 10-for-12 from the floor and 3-for-4 from the charity stripe in her 26 minutes of action.
Anne Boese was the leading scorer for IPFW. Boese scored 14 points and also dished out a season-high four assists. Stephanie Rosado used her height advantage leading her to a 13 point, six rebound performance.
Amanda Hyde crashed the boards, recording a team-high eight rebounds to go along with 11 points. Rachel Mauk and Rebecca Bruner helped the IPFW bench outscore Western Illinois 29-5. Mauk was a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor, including two from distance to end the game with 10 points. Bruner scored a career-high seven points in 13 minutes.
QUICK HITTERS
• IPFW senior Anne Boese is currently the Summit League career record holder for three-point field goals made with 285. Boese will have to hold off South Dakota State senior Jill Young during the final stretch of the season as Young has 278. Both of these sharpshooters took down the old record of 262 which was held by Buffalo's Brenna Doty. Doty played from 1994-97.
• The Mastodons have made a three-point basket in 399 consecutive games, which is now the fourth longest active streak in the NCAA. IPFW moved to fourth on Thursday night as the Loyola Ramblers went 0-for-8 from the three-point line snapping their streak at 446.
• Senior Stephanie Rosado has reached double figure scoring in each of her last seven starts.
• IPFW has used nine different starting lineups this season, with only Anne Boese starting all 24 games for the Mastodons.
• IPFW set a new school record vs SDSU by hitting all 19 of their free throw attempts. The 19-for-19 mark tops the old record of 15-for-15 which was set during the 1993 season. It also marks the third best performance from the charity stripe in Summit League history.
• In other milestone watches, both Stephanie Rosado and Anne Boese have eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau this month. Rosado accomplished the feat against UMKC on December 3, while Boese did it against Valparaiso three days later. Rosado currently has 1,169 career points, while Boese is right behind her at 1,166.
