ROCHESTER, Mich. – The IPFW women's basketball team defeated the Oakland Golden Grizzlies by the final score of 52-45 on Saturday afternoon. Stephanie Rosado was a major factor in the win as the senior returned to her home state to score a game-high 20 points while pulling down eight rebounds.
Rosado went 8-for-14 from the floor, including two 3-point field goals. She also added an assist and a steal in her 37 minutes of action.
Sarah Haluska scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds in the win. Erin Murphy matched Haluska with eight points off the bench for the 'Dons.
Amanda Hyde and Anne Boese hit big shots to help pull out the victory. Hyde scored six points and led the team in rebounds with nine. Boese once again attacked from the perimeter with two 3-point field goals which resulted in a seven point effort.
The duo of Bethany Watterworth and Sharise Calhoun played well for Oakland. Watterworth scored inside and out, finishing with 19 points and five rebounds. Calhoun joined Watterworth in double figure scoring with 12.
The 'Dons got off to a fast start and led by as many as 13 points in the first half. The IPFW defense was locked in early allowing the team to get out to a 14-2 lead early in the game. The Grizzlies first field goal of the game didn't come until the 10:35 mark.
After 20 minutes of action it was IPFW leading 27-20. Haluska went coast-to-coast at end of the half just beating the buzzer to increase the lead. Rosado scored 13 of her 20 points in the first half of play. She was 5-for-9 with one three point field goal.
The lead was cut to three in the second half with 11 minutes remaining. A Haluska jumper moved it back up to five and a Boese 3-pointer extended the advantage back to eight. IPFW maintained the lead for the remainder of the game and a pair of free throws by Haluska sealed the win.
Saturday's game marks the first road win of the season for IPFW. They also snapped a six-game losing streak. The Mastodons will look to build a winning streak as they host their next two contests. Oral Roberts will travel to the Gates Sports Center on Saturday, Feb. 18. The weekend series will continue with a matchup against Southern Utah on Monday, Feb. 20.
