Mastodons Travel to Kansas City to Face UMKC

PRE-GAME NOTES
FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Mastodons are playing some of their best basketball of the season down the final stretch of the Summit League schedule. They have won two of their last three games with their only setback coming in overtime to Oral Roberts. IPFW's only other overtime game of the season came against the Kangaroos back on Dec. 3. The 'Dons won that contest 82-76.

SCOUTING THE KANGAROOS
UMKC currently sits in fourth place in the Summit League standings. With South Dakota not being eligible for post-season play this year, the Kangaroos will be fighting off IPFW and Oakland this weekend to keep the No. 3 seed in the tournament.
UMKC holds an overall record of 18-10 with a 9-7 mark in Summit League action. IPFW took the 'Roos into overtime in the first meeting of the 2011-12 season and ended the game with an 82-76 victory back on Dec. 3. Stephanie Rosado and Erin Murphy combined for 44 of IPFW's 82 points that night. Both players hurt UMKC from the free throw line as Rosado went 10-for-10 and Murphy ended the night 11-of-12. Anne Boese and Haley Seibert each added 13 points for IPFW.
Eilise O'Conner scored a game-high 25 points for UMKC in the first meeting hitting 8-of-19 from the field. Kim Nezianya, Dayon Hall-Jones and Emile Blakesley joined O'Conner in double figure scoring for the 'Roos. Hall-Jones leads the team in scoring at 16.9 per game. Nezianya works the paint averaging 10.9 points per game and a team-high 7.3 rebounds per contest. The assist leader for UMKC is O'Conner at 4.8 per contest.
LAST TIME OUT
The senior class led the Mastodons to victory on Monday night as IPFW defeated Southern Utah at the Gates Sports Center by the final score of 70-60. Anne Boese scored a game-high 19 points in the win. Boese hit five 3-point field goals against the Thunderhawks. She ended the game 7-for-10 from the field.
Sarah Haluska and Amanda Hyde impacted the game in many ways. Haluska scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Hyde posted 12 points, three rebounds and three assists. Senior Stephanie Rosado was a force inside for the Mastodons. Rosado scored eight points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked two shots.
The senior class allowed IPFW to get out to a quick 9-0 lead. Haluska scored the first bucket of the game and Boese added five quick points. Rosado pushed the lead to 9-0 after hitting a jumper from the elbow. Boese hit her first three 3-point field goal attempts of the game posting 11 points in the first eight minutes of action. Midway through the opening half it was IPFW leading 24-8. Southern Utah switched to a 2-3 zone, but the IPFW offense adjusted taking a 38-19 lead into halftime.
QUICK HITTERS
• IPFW senior Anne Boese is currently the Summit League career record holder for three-point field goals made with 296. Boese will have to hold off South Dakota State senior Jill Young during the final stretch of the season as Young has 287. Both of these sharpshooters took down the old record of 262 which was held by Buffalo's Brenna Doty. Doty played from 1994-97.
• Rosado is the IPFW all-time career leader in blocked shots with 109. She places seventh all-time in career rebounds with 540, and 10th in points with 1,209.
• Sarah Haluska averaged 14 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last week in home games against Oral Roberts and Southern Utah.
• The Mastodons have made a three-point basket in 402 consecutive games, which is now the fourth longest active streak in the NCAA. IPFW moved to fourth on Feb. 9 as the Loyola Ramblers went 0-for-8 from the three-point line snapping their streak at 446.
• IPFW has used nine different starting lineups this season, with only Anne Boese starting all 27 games for the Mastodons.
• In other milestone watches, both Stephanie Rosado and Anne Boese have eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau this month. Rosado accomplished the feat against UMKC on December 3, while Boese did it against Valparaiso three days later. Rosado currently has 1,209 career points, while Boese is close behind her at 1,204.
