Mastodons Face Top Seed South Dakota State in Summit League Tournament

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – March Madness is here for IPFW fans, players, and coaches. The Mastodons will face South Dakota State tomorrow, March 3 at 12 p.m. The Jackrabbits earned the No. 1 seed with a league mark of 16-2. The 'Dons enter as the No. 8 underdog posted a league record of 6-12.

SCOUTING THE JACKRABBITS
South Dakota State claimed the top seed in the 2012 Summit League Tournament by posting a league record of 16-2. Their only setbacks during league play were at Oral Roberts on Jan. 7 and at South Dakota on Feb. 13. The Jackrabbits have won three straight games and hold a strong advantage in the all-time series over IPFW 16-1.
Jennie Sunnarborg leads the SDSU offense. Sunnarborg is averaging just over 14 points per game to go along with a team-high 6.2 rebounds per contest. Jill Young is the 3-point specialist for the Jackrabbits. Young is second all-time in Summit League history with 292 made 3-point field goals (Anne Boese is currently in first with 300). Young has made 70 3-point field goals this season and is second on the team averaging 12 points per game. Ashley Eide is yet another SDSU player that averages double figure scoring for the Jackrabbits.
Sunnarborg, Young, Eide and Steph Paluch have started in all 29 games for South Dakota State this season. The final player in the starting five rotates between Katie Lingle and Leah Dietel.
The Jackrabbits defeated IPFW 81-58 in the first meeting, and then traveled to the Gates Sports Center to take down the Mastodons once again 76-66. Sunnarborg, Young, Eide and Lingle scored in double figures during each meeting.
LAST TIME OUT
The Mastodons got off to a rough start offensively shooting just 29 percent from the floor in the first half (7-for-24). They improved that number to 47 percent in the second half, but the 13 point halftime deficit was too much to overcome as South Dakota picked up the 70-56 victory.
Amanda Hyde scored a team-high 14 points on Monday night. She added five rebounds and two assists in 37 minutes of action. Stephanie Rosado also reached double figure scoring for IPFW. Rosado ended the game with 11 points, two rebounds, and two blocks.
All 12 players on the IPFW roster got in the game Monday night, and 11 of the 12 attempted at least one field goal. Sarah Haluska scored eight, while Mur Hagerman and Haley Seibert each chipped in with five. Anne Boese hit her 300th career 3-point field goal against South Dakota on Monday night. She finished with two overall, posting six points.

IPFW senior Anne Boese is in a race with South Dakota State senior Jill Young to see who is the best three point shooter in Summit League history. Both Boese and Young have passed the old record of 262, set by Brenna Doty from 1994-97. Boese is currently in first with 300, while Young is close behind at 292.

• Rosado is the IPFW all-time career leader in blocked shots with 111. She places seventh all-time in career rebounds with 550, and 10th in points with 1,237.
• The Mastodons have made a three-point basket in 404 consecutive games, which is now the fourth longest active streak in the NCAA. IPFW moved to fourth on Feb. 9 as the Loyola Ramblers went 0-for-8 from the three-point line snapping their streak at 446.
• The Jackrabbits defeated IPFW 81-58 in the first meeting, and then traveled to the Gates Sports Center to take down the Mastodons once again 76-66. Sunnarborg, Young, Eide and Lingle scored in double figures during each meeting.

• In other milestone watches, both Stephanie Rosado and Anne Boese have eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau this month. Rosado accomplished the feat against UMKC on December 3, while Boese did it against Valparaiso three days later. Rosado currently has 1,237 career points, while Boese is close behind her at 1,218.
