FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons fell to 0-2 on the young 2012 season after the program's second straight 1-0 loss, falling to Mid-American Conference foe Toledo on Friday night.
The one-goal margin is nothing new for the Mastodons against MAC teams, as the last nine results against teams from the conference have been decided by just one goal, including four last season.
The Mastodons peppered the Toledo (1-2-0) goal early and often in the first half, putting up six total shots, five of those on goal, but not finding the back of the net in any of the tries.
Toledo, who also had six shots in the first half - just one on goal - but took advantage of their first attempt of the second half when Rio James took a through-pass from Jaimie Morsillo, and put it past a diving Sam Pavlika into the back of the net for the eventual game-winning goal just 10 minutes into the second period.
IPFW put five more tries at a score in the second half, three on goal, but none finding their intended target, as the Rockets held on for their first win of the 2012 season.
Sydney Hoareau put up a team-high three shot attempts for the Mastodons, with Rhea Proctor, Arianne Mason, and Maya Reyes each putting up a pair.
Pavlika stopped a pair of shots in the contest, while giving up just the solitary goal early in the first half.
The Mastodons quickly get back on the pitch with a road trip to Terre Haute, Indiana, to take on the Indiana State Sycamores in a 2 p.m. kickoff.
