SCOUTING THE BRONCOS
Western Michigan comes into the mid-week meeting with an unblemished 2-0 record after wins over Marygrove (4-0) and No. 25 Bradley (2-1) a week earlier, and are receiving points in the latest NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I rankings. Oliver Mayer, the MAC Player of the Week, scored two goals and dished out an assist, while Ryan Lemasters has a goal and three assists in two games on the season.
Through just over 188 minutes in the season, the Broncos have allowed just one goal, that coming from starting keeper Sean Lewis, who has a 0.63 goals against average with six saves, as backup keeper Adriano Deabreu has not been scored upon in 45 minutes of action.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Western Michigan leads the all-time series between the two teams by an 11-3-3 overall record, and have faced IPFW in all but one year since the Mastodons joined the ranks of NCAA Division I in the 2001 season (2008 was the only exception).
Western Michigan took early control in the series, winning the first four meetings, and going 5-0-1 through the first half dozen times the teams met, before the Mastodons took away a 4-2 win in Fort Wayne in October 2001. The Broncos then followed by going 5-0-2 in the next seven match-ups; however, the Mastodons have done well for themselves in the last three meetings, going 2-1-0, including a 2-1 win in Fort Wayne a season ago.
