Mastodons Take on Tough Field at Wolf Run Intercollegiate

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW men's golf team looks to carry the momentum gained after a strong opening tournament into what will likely be one of the most challenging tournaments and fields of the season at the Wolf Run Intercollegiates.

COMPETING TEAMS
The 14-team field will include Indiana, Illinois, Texas Tech, Kentucky, Ohio State, Eastern Michigan, Wisconsin, IUPUI, Northern Illinois, Michigan State, Akron, Miami (Ohio), Butler, and IPFW. With individuals, there will be 81 competitors overall in the field.
THE COURSE
The Wolf Run Golf Club has been the host site for Wolf Run Intercollegiate since its inception in 2006. The course was also a Regional site for the 2011 NCAA Men's Golf Championship.The course is a Par 71 (35-36) layout with a total distance of 7,195 yards. The course website is HERE.
IPFW LINEUP
The Mastodons will roll out the same lineup for the second consecutive week, which will include seniors Drew Imel and Bruno Carvalho, sophomores E.J. Tackett and Jacob Groninger, and freshman Drake Devereux.
LAST TOURNAMENT
The Mastodons placed fifth in the strong Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate two weeks ago, and were led by an even-par performance from Tackett, who carded a 216 over the three days, including a two-under 70 on the final round, placing him seventh overall. Imel tied for eighth with a one-over 217 after a final-round score of 71 (one under par).
Jacob Groninger shot a final-round 78, giving him a 229 (+13), placing in a tie of 37th. Bruno Carvalho shot a final-round 82 for a three-round total of 232 (+16) rounding out the scoring members of the squad. Drake Devereaux shot a 79, as a scoring player in the third round.
ABOUT IPFW
The Mastodons have put up four par or sub-par rounds this season, two each from Imel and Tackett. Tackett averages a team-best 72.00, while Imel is close behind with a 72.33 scoring average. Groninger (76.33), Carvalho (77.33), and Devereux (79.67) each fall in line behind the leading pair after the first weekend of competition.
