Mastodons to Face Oral Roberts in Friday Night Battle

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Mastodons host the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles in a Summit League contest on Friday against the Golden Eagles of Oral Roberts University, who are associate members of the Summit League in men's soccer only.

ALL-TIME SERIES
Oral Roberts and IPFW have faced off six times prior to this coming meeting, with the Golden Eagles holding a firm 3-1-2 lead in the all-time series. ORU won the first meeting of the teams 2-0 in Tulsa, before the Mastodons answered back a year later with a scoreless tie. A 2-0 win by ORU in 2009 provided the only meeting between the teams, while the 'Dons drew to another tie in Fort Wayne a year later, this one 1-1. Last season the squads met twice, the first time to a 3-1 IPFW win in Tulsa, before the Golden Eagles got their revenge in the Summit League Tournament with a 3-2 win with a goal with 13 seconds left in regulation.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
Oral Roberts comes into the match with their only win coming on September 14 at the Air Force Academy with a 1-0 victory. Since then the Golden Eagles have been shut out 4-0 at Denver, and 5-0 at home against Oakland in each squad's Summit League opener.
Craig Rogers has a team-high two goals for ORU, while Tom Adams, Tyler Hill, and Griffith Poindexter each have one goal. Gerardo Salas has assisted in three of the team's five goals, as he is the only one on the team with a helper this season.
Defensively Ryan Grashik has been in goal for well over half of the team's 728-plus minutes, and has a 3.22 goals against average with 25 saves and an 0-4 record. Isaac Sandoval has also seen time, playing in 121 and a half minutes with a dozen saves and a 0.74 goals against average.
SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
The Mastodons have struggled offensively this season and have been out-scored 26-5, including a 5-1 loss on Tuesday evening to the Kentucky Wildcats.
Leading the offensive pace for the 'Dons has been freshman Corey Tom, who has a team-high three goals, while Jackson Tooke and Brent Helton have each put a shot into the back of the net. Mitch Falkenstern has a team-high two assists, as Tooke, Jose Rodriguez, and Steven L'Esperence each have an assist. In all, of IPFW's points scored on the season (two points for a goal, one for an assist), freshmen have accounted for 10 of the 15.
Defensively Brandon Cloutier has played and started in all 10 matches for the 'Dons, and has a 2.53 goals against average with 46 saves, 11th most in the country.
