Mastodons Close Strong at Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate

VERONA, N.Y. - Behind the strong finishing performances from E.J. Tackett and Drew Imel, the IPFW men's golf team maintained its fifth place standing through the third and final day of competition at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate, hosted by Missouri.
The Mastodons carded a third-round total of 298, giving the squad a three-round total of 891, good for fifth of the 13 teams in the field. Host Missouri took home the team title with a two-day score of 842. Louisville (861), Memphis (866), and Central Connecticut State (890) each finished ahead of IPFW, while Villanova (897), Cleveland State (900), Loyola (901), Army (910), Canisius (920), Delaware (923), Cincinnati (926), and Saint Peter's (927) finished behind the 'Dons.
Tackett carded a two-under 70 on the final round, giving him an even-par 216 for the two days, placing him seventh overall. Imel tied for eighth with a one-under 71, finishing the three rounds one-over par with a 217.
Jacob Groninger shot a final-round 78, giving him a 229 (+13), placing in a tie of 37th. Bruno Carvalho shot a final-round 82 for a three-round total of 232 (+16) rounding out the scoring members of the squad. Drake Devereaux shot a 79, as a scoring player in the third round. Playing as an individual, Logan Barker carded a final-round score of 85, putting him 35 strokes over par for the three rounds.
After taking a week off, the Mastodons travel south to Bloomington, Ind. to compete in the Indiana Wolf Run Intercollegiate, hosted at the Wolf Run Golf Club on September 15 and 16.
