FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The IPFW women's basketball team will be on the road this weekend as they start the trip by traveling to Vermillion, South Dakota to face the Coyotes on Thursday, Jan. 17. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST
SCOUTING THE COYOTES
South Dakota is 7-10 overall with a 2-2 mark in the Summit League. The Coyotes are currently riding a two-game losing streak as they lost 72-60 at South Dakota State and 60-56 most recently at Kansas City.
The Coyotes defeated Omaha 62-57, on Dec. 30 and moved to 2-0 in league play after a win at North Dakota State, 73-52. Nicole Seekamp leads the team in scoring at 14.4 points per game. Polly Harrington and Tempestt Wilson are also both averaging double figure scoring totals at 12.2 and 10.8 ppg.

South Dakota has had the same starting five for all 17 games this season. Joining the trio of scorers will be Alexis Yackley and Pam January. The team's leading rebounder comes off the bench as Margaret McCloud pulls down 7.7 per game. IPFW will have to put a body on McCloud and the rest of the team as South Dakota leads the Summit League by averaging 42.4 rebounds per game as a team.
Hitting the boards and playing tough defense is a quality recipe for any basketball team and the Coyotes are good at both as they force their opponents to shoot just 37.3 percent from the floor and 28 percent from 3-point range
LAST TIME OUT
The IPFW women's basketball team had South Dakota State on the ropes, but the Jackrabbits crashed the boards in the last seconds of the game and scored with less than a second remaining to improve to 5-0 in the Summit League.
Stefanie Mauk and Erin Murphy each scored 20 points for IPFW on Saturday afternoon. Mauk shot 8-for-13 from the field and 4-for-8 from three point land while Murphy shot 5-for-9 from the floor and 9-for-12 from the charity stripe. Mauk added two rebounds, an assist, a steal, and one block in 37 minutes of action. 20 points ties her career-high.

Rachel Mauk scored 11 points and grabbed six defensive rebounds for the Mastodons. Haley Seibert and Amanda Hyde rounded out the scoring with eight and five points respectively. Hyde was just 1-of-6 from the floor, but she found ways to impact the game by grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.
Megan Waytashek was hands down the player of the game for the Jackrabbits as she scored a game-high 30 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Waytashek's last shot had the biggest impact as her offensive rebound in the last few seconds of the game led to the game-winning bucket.
ALL-TIME SERIES
The all-time series between IPFW and South Dakota is tied at 1-1. The two teams met for the first time a year ago as IPFW won the first match up 65-63 at the Gates Sports Center. The Coyotes returned the favor as they dropped the Mastodons 70-56 in the DakotaDome.
THREE-POINT STREAK
The IPFW Mastodons have made a 3-point field goal in 422 straight contests, a stretch that ranks as the fourth longest active streak in NCAA Division I. Iowa State's streak is at the top of the list by making a 3-point field goal in 562 consecutive games. Sam Houston State and Connecticut rank ahead of IPFW with 515 and 488 respectively.
OFF TO A GOOD START
IPFW will need to get off to a good start against South Dakota as the team is 6-3 overall when leading at halftime compared to 0-8 when they trail after the first 20 minutes. The Mastodons are 2-1 when playing on Thursday, but just 1-6 when playing at night.
OFFENSIVE FIREPOWER
Erin Murphy has started in four of IPFW's last five games and has responded to the change by scoring 17.8 points per game during that stretch. Despite only scoring five points against SDSU, Amanda Hyde still leads the team with a scoring average of 20.4 in the last five games, and junior Stefanie Mauk has also increased her scoring as she has averaged 11.2 ppg since the beginning of the Summit League season. IPFW is 2-3 over their last five games which includes a two-point loss to SDSU and a five point setback vs. IUPUI.
SUMMIT LEAGUE LEADER
Junior Amanda Hyde leads the Summit League with a scoring average of 19.3 points per game.
THREE-POINT SHOOTING
IPFW is shooting 33 percent from behind the arc and are currently third in the Summit League with 115 made 3-point field goals. South Dakota enters the weekend as one of the worst 3-point shooting teams in the league as they only hit 26 percent of their shots from distance (71-272).
FREEBIES
Amanda Hyde and Erin Murphy are two of the top free throw shooters in the league. Hyde currently ranks second in the Summit League with a free throw percentage of .850. Murphy is right behind her in third with an 84.9 average. Hyde and Murphy rank 47th and 49 nationally which helps IPFW land in sixth as a team (78.4).
