INDIANAPOLIS - A goal with just 2:43 to play on the clock sent the IPFW Mastodons to a 2-1 defeat on Saturday evening at the hands of the IUPUI Jaguars.
Oscar Uyamadu scored his team-leading fifth goal in the match, just over 10 minutes into the second half, but it was not enough in the narrow loss.
Despite 14 total shots - seven from each team - neither the Mastodons nor the Jaguars were able to find the back of the net, as the squads played the first 45 minutes of the match to a scoreless draw.
On their first shot of the second half, IUPUI's Cristian Soto scored his first goal of the season, putting the hosts ahead 1-0 just 3:19 into the second stanza.
After a series of four consecutive corner kicks by the Mastodons, the squad was able to convert when Jacob Gerondale sent a pass inside the six-yard box, where Uyamadu finished for his fifth goal of the year.
The match seemed destined for overtime, before Tyler Drumm found the back of the net on a shot from eight yards out after a long throw-in.
Corey Tom took a match-high five shots, as IPFW out-shot the Jaguars 20-16 in the match, as Uyamadu had four shots, and Jacob Murphy and Jose Rodriguez each had three.
Raphael Kotzock picked up four saves in the losing effort while his counterpart, Eduardo Cortes, had nine saves while allowing the one goal.
The Mastodons return to action on Tuesday, October 22, when the squad travels to Kalamazoo, Mich. to take on the Western Michigan Broncos in a 4 p.m. kickoff.
