Mastodons Fall in Mid-Week Battle with Broncos

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - A Corey Tom penalty kick goal snapped the shutout attempt for Western Michigan, as the Mastodons fell 4-1 in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.
Tom scored his second goal of the season in the 68th minute on the Mastodons' second penalty-kick attempt on the season.
Western Michigan scored just 1:49 into the game on a header off of a free kick from 30 yards out, before tacking on to their lead with just under 15 minutes remaining in the first half, taking a 2-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Broncos scored in the 53rd and 60th minutes of the second half before Tom ended the shutout bid.
IPFW goalkeeper Raphael Kotzock played for just over 80 minutes in the game, picking up five saves and allowing four goals, while Will Brown played the final 8:43 of the game.
The Mastodons took five shots in the match - all in the second half - including two from Oscar Uyamadu and one each from Jose Rodriguez, Tom, and Spencer Brown.
IPFW returns to action on Saturday, October 26 in a 7 p.m. kickoff for senior day at the Hefner Soccer Complex.
