FORT WAYNE, Ind. - IPFW sophomore Sam Pavlika tied the Mastodon career shutout record with her fifth shutout of the season, as IPFW won its third straight, improving to 6-9-1 on the season, and 3-1-1 in Summit League play with a 1-0 victory over Omaha on Sunday afternoon.
Pavlika now has nine shutouts over her career, the same number as former Mastodon Shannon Lynn (2004-06), despite having 20 fewer games to her name, and is the third straight shutout for the Temperance, Mich. native.
The Mastodons struck quickly in the game, when Sydney Hoareau laid back a beautiful pass into the top of the box, where a charging Gaby Romo was able to put a foot on the ball, beating the Omaha goalkeeper to the right side of the goal 18:50 into the contest.
Neither team could mount a scoring try over the final 27 minutes of the match, as the Mastodons went into the locker room with a 1-0 advantage.
Despite being out-shot 6-2 in the second half, the Mastodons were able to hold onto their slim lead, as none of the six Maverick shot attempts found the back of the net, securing the 1-0 shutout.
Delia Soucie had a team-high three shot attempts, while Mayson Whitman had two. Pavlika had three saves in her record-tying performance, while Meaghan Click of Omaha had four saves.
The Mastodons close out the regular season next weekend with matches at North Dakota State and South Dakota State, with the Summit League Tournament a weekend after.
