FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Denver Pioneers and IPFW Mastodons played through a defensive first 25 minutes of the match; however, a pair of quick goals by Denver put the visitors ahead 2-0, as the Summit League newcomer topped the Mastodons 5-0 in Summit League action.
IPFW had six shots, one each from Jose Rodriguez, Corey Tom, Robbie Guzman, Darnell Parris, and Austin Sibery, with Rodriguez' coming on goal. Raphael Kotzock picked up five saves while giving up three first-half goals, while Will Brown picked up three saves in 45 minutes of action while allowing a pair of goals.
After the Pioneers opened the game with eight shots in the first 25 minutes - four of those saved by Kotzock, the visitors snuck a shot through in the 27th minute when Kyle Morlack scored what would eventually be the game-winning score. Less than two minutes later, Denver added to its lead with a goal from Chandler Crosswait, taking the visitors to a 2-0 advantage.
A second goal by Crosswait seven minutes later gave Denver a 3-0 lead that they would take into the locker room at halftime.
The Mastodons came out firing to start the second half, as Rodriguez put a shot on goal just four minutes into the second half; however, it was saved by Denver goalkeeper Oliver Brown. A goal in the 65th minute, and the final score in the 86th gave the match its 5-0 final score.
The Mastodons return to action on Saturday, October 12, when the squad hosts the Panthers of Eastern Illinois University in a 7 p.m. kickoff at the Hefner Soccer Field.
