Men's Basketball Evens Record With Lopsided Win over Cougars

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodon men's basketball team evened its record with a lopsided 90-62 in over the IU-Kokomo Cougars on Monday evening in the Mastodons' home opener as part of the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Holiday Inn Downtown Marina Islanders Basketball Tournament.
Four players reached double figures, including 21 from Joe Reed and 20 from Michael Kibiloski, while Steve Forbes scored 14 and Joe Edwards 10. Mo Evans narrowly missed double-figures with nine, as IPFW out-scored its opponent 62-12 in the paint, and 20-4 on second-chance attempts.
Joe Reed pulled down eight rebounds, just missing a double-double, as IPFW out-rebounded IU-Kokomo 37-to-27 in the game. Pierre Bland gave out eight assists, while Kevin Harden helped with four, helping propel the 'Dons to a 23-to-7 assist-to-turnover ratio. Isaiah McCray blocked a career-high three shots, as the Mastodons had eight blocked shots in all, as Edwards and Mo Evans each had three steals.
The Mastodons scored the first six points of the game on lay-ups by Forbes, Edwards, and Kibiloski, and pushed ahead to a nine-point, 14-5 lead before the Cougars ran off eight straight points to cut the gap to one at 14-13 with 14:08 to play in the opening period.
IPFW ran off six straight points, and kept their foot on the gas pedal, leading by as many as 16, taking a 52-36 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Mastodons ran of a 21-9 stretch to open the second half, and led by as many as 40 at 87-47, cruising to the 28-point, 90-62 win.
Spencer Krhin scored 14 points for IU-Kokomo, while Jerome Campbell added nine.
The Mastodons return to action on November 15 when the squad faces off against Texas A&M Corpus Christi in the second of four games in the Holiday Inn Downtown Marina Islanders Basketball Tournament.
