Mastodons Drop Second Game of Preseason WNIT

CHICAGO - It was a tough night for the IPFW women's basketball team as they fell in their second game of the Preseason WNIT to Loyola University Chicago 82-61. The Mastodons will close out the tournament tomorrow at 10 p.m. when they face Mount St. Mary's whom fell earlier in the night to Idaho 81-63.
Mur Hagerman and Haley Seibert led IPFW with 11 points on the night. Hagerman also led the 'Dons with seven rebounds while Seibert led the team with four assists. Rachel Mauk also scored in double-digits adding 10 points.
The two sides trade baskets early on in the first half, exchanging multiple leads. Trailing 10-8, Rachel Mauk would hit a layup and then follow by draining a three to give the 'Dons a 13-10 lead with 14:25 to play. After a Ramblers basket, Haley Seibert would hit a pair of free throws to keep the Mastodon lead at three. From there though, the IPFW offense would go cold as they went 6:24 without a field goal until Mur Hagerman hit a jumper with 8:01 left in the half, but the 'Dons were down 25-18 at that point.
The Ramblers would continue to push their lead as the Mastodons trailed 45-30 as the teams headed into the locker room.
Rebecca Bruner would get IPFW going as she hit a jumper less than a minute into the second half as the 'Dons would again trade baskets with the Ramblers several times over the course of the opening minutes. Seibert would hit a pair of free throws at the 12:53 mark to cut the Loyola lead to 12 at 58-46, but the Mastodons would be unable to pull any closer down the stretch. The Ramblers would go on a seven point run to push their lead to 23.
Neither offense was able to do much damage in the final six minutes of the game as the defenses stepped up, holding the offenses to just 15 combines points.
Amanda Hyde contributed eight points for the 'Dons. Rebecca Bruner, Stefanie Mauk and Ariana Simmons all finished the night with four rebounds. Simmons also had a game-high three blocks.
IPFW made just three fewer field goals for the game than Loyola, but the difference maker came as the charity stripe as the Ramblers connected on 33-of-42 while the 'Dons hit just 15-of-24.
