Big Jackrabbit Second Half Ends IPFW Season

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The South Dakota State Jackrabbits used runs of 11-0 and 10-0 in the second half to pull away from IPFW, topping the Mastodons 72-56 in Summit League Tournament Semifinal action.
The Mastodons close the 2012-13 season with a 16-17 record, winning six of the team's last seven games of the season.
Frank Gaines closed his IPFW career with 25 points on 9-of-20 shooting from the field, ending his four years as the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,841 points. Joe Edwards and Luis Jacobo each added seven scores for IPFW. Jacobo pulled down a team-best five rebounds, while Pierre Bland and Isaiah McCray each dished out four assists.
The Mastodons opened the game strong, scoring the game's first 10 points, including a pair of three-point baskets, over the first three minutes of the contest. The IPFW lead grew to as many as 12 on an Edwards lay-in with 11:03 to play in the game, before SDSU opend a 12-2 run to climb to within two at 25-23 with 4:20 to play.
The Jackrabbits took their first lead of the game with 1:44 to play in the game, before a Gaines three-pointer with just under a minute to play to give the Mastodons a two-point, 34-32 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.
IPFW led by one at 45-44 with 15:34 to play in the game, before the 'Jacks ran off 10 in a row to lead by nine. The 'Dons fought back, climbing to within six at 54-48 with 11:02 to play; however, a 13-0 SDSU run pushed the lead to 19, as the Mastodons closed to within 16 at the final buzzer at 72-56.
Nate Wolters scored 18 points and dished out 12 assists, while Chad White scored 17, and Tony Fiegen 16.
