Personal Records Fall as Mastodons Split Between Pair of Meets

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodon track & field team set a quartet of personal bests as the team split its talents between a pair of meets, the Hillsdale Relays and the Stan Lyons Invitational.
At Hillsdale, freshman Rachel Dincoff paced IPFW with a second place finish in the shot put with a toss of 47-9.25, the second-best throw in program history, while Kayla Zink's toss of 40-7.75 (12.39 meters) placed her eighth. Laura Moynahan placed 19th with a throw of 34-11 (10.64 meters).
Kaeleigh Porter and Zink set personal-bests in the hammer throw with tosses of 154-0 (46.94 meters) and 145-11 (44.47 meters), placing 13th and 21st respectively. Dincoff just missed a personal best in the event with a toss of 121-3 (36.96 meters) placing 31st with Lizzy Frazze (41st / 99-5) and Laura Moynahan (44th / 96-3) rounding out the Mastodons in the field for the event.
Kaitlyn Simmons narrowly missed a collegiate PR in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:35.89, placing her 27th in the field, Andrea Bell became the sixth-fastest 10,000-meter runner in school history with her time of 38:15.05 in the 6.2-mile race, placing 14th, while Jordan Tomecek placed 18th in a time of 19:45.91.
Zink, in her third event of the relays, placed sixth in the discus throw with a toss of 141-4 (43.09 meters), as Dincoff took seventh with a throw of 139-10, and Emily Radke 26th with a toss of 116-11.
An evening later at the Stan Lyons Invitational, hosted by Butler University, Emily Craig set a new collegiate personal-best in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.01, placing fourth, while also taking fourth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 28.98.
Theresa McHugh put off for the fourth-best javelin throw in school history at 42.33 meters, winning the event, while Alyssa Kopp took third with a toss of 27.61 and Frazze fifth at 20.93 meters.
Kayla Boyes ran to the team's final PR of the evening in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:53.43, placing 10th, while Andrea Bell took 15th in a time of 5:05.38.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Kaylin Taylor, Craig, Boyes, and Julie Jeszenszky placed second in the race with a time of 4:12.44, the fourth-fastest relay time in school history. Earlier in the meet, Taylor ran the 400-meter hurdles to the fifth-fastest time in school history at 1:06.11.
In the 800-meter dash, junior Julie Jeszenszky raced to the sixth-fastest time in school history, placing eighth with a time of 2:21.94, while Alexa Brown (14th / 2:32.70), Nichole Wormcastle (17th / 2:34.86), Andrea Bell (18th / 2:35.27), Nicole Dailey (19th / 2:38.11), and Alexis Minier (20th / 2:46.38) also competed for the 'Dons.
The 5,000-meter run saw Rachel Zachar race to a seventh place finish in a time of 18:38.90, as Amaya Ayers took 13th in 19:28.81 and Tomecek 15th in 19:50.32. Kaitlyn Simmons placed second in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 11:06.36.
Alyssa Kopp led a trio of Mastodons in the shot put at Butler with a toss of 11.91 meters, placing third overall, as Frazee placed fifth at 10.65 meters, and Porter sixth (10.41 meters).
The Mastodons close out the pre-Summit League season on Friday, May 3 when the squad travels to Bloomington, Ind. to compete in the Billy Hayes Invitational.
