IPFW Drops Regular Season Finale at North Dakota State

FARGO, N.D. – IPFW ended the 2013 regular season with a 22-32 overall record after being defeated by the North Dakota State Bison on Saturday afternoon. The Mastodons took a 6-2 loss at Newman Outdoor Field to end the year.
Steve Lowden and Kevin Wirth each recorded two hits for IPFW in a losing effort. Lowden recorded the team's only RBI of the day and the duo of Markus Kalber and Clay Hathaway each scored a run.
North Dakota State got off to a fast start as Colwell and Hechtner each recorded singles in the bottom of the first inning. A 6-4-3 ground double play took care of Hechtner and Satzinger, but Colwell came around to score during the next at-bat as Skrbec delivered an RBI single to right field.
The lead expanded to 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth as Hermes came up with a two-out triple down the right field line that sent Kenneally home and NDSU opened up a 3-0 advantage with an RBI single from Turbak in the bottom of the fifth.
A lead-off triple from Hechtner jumpstarted a three-run inning for NDSU in the seventh that put the game out of reach. IPFW got in the scoreboard with two runs in the eighth as Lowden recorded an RBI single to right field and Clay Hathaway scored on a wild pitch.
Brandon Pease got the start and was therefore hit with the loss for IPFW. Pease went five full innings and struck out one batter. Nate White and Danny Tursell also spent time on the hill for IPFW. White tossed one inning and Tursell ended the day with the final two innings.
