
Softball Closes Season with Regional Loss to #16 UCLA

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The IPFW Mastodons were eliminated in their first NCAA Tournament berth, falling to the 16th ranked UCLA Bruins by an 8-0 score on Saturday afternoon.
The loss ends the season for IPFW with a 34-16 overall record, while UCLA advances to face off against the Louisville Cardinals for a chance to advance to the championship series of the Louisville Regional.
IPFW's Miranda Kramer and UCLA's Jessica Hall battling pitch-for-pitch through the first four innings of the ballgame, with Kramer striking out four through four innings while allowing two hits in the span.
The Bruins ended the pitchers duel in the top of the fifth inning when Allexis Bennett singled up the middle before stealing second base, and scoring on a Stephany LaRosa single, putting the visitors on the scoreboard ahead 1-0.
The lead grew to 2-0 in the sixth inning with a Devon Lindvall two-out solo home run, before UCLA added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when All-American candidate B.B. Bates drove in the team's third run with a double to right field, putting the Bruins ahead 3-0, before taking on five more runs during the inning, aided by a pair of Mastodon errors, as UCLA pushed ahead to an 8-0 lead in the seventh inning.
IPFW could not muster a comeback, falling 8-0 to the Bruins, the 2010 NCAA Champions.
The Mastodons had three hits in the game, one each from Hillary Kartman, Brittany Kachur, and Larissa Franklin.
