GREENSBORO, N.C. - IPFW freshman Rachel Dincoff topped her own school record in the shot put on Saturday evening at the NCAA East Preliminary Meet, hosted by North Carolina A&T and UNC Greensboro, as senior Theresa McHugh also ended her career in the javelin competition of the same meet.
Dincoff, who came into the East Preliminaries with a season-best throw of 15.09, neared her season-best thow with a toss of 14.83 meters (48-feet, 8-inches), before unleashing the program's first 50-foot throw with a toss of 15.24 meters (50-feet, 0-inches), good enough for the third-best throw of her preliminary group. Her last throw of 15.00 meters was also very strong, but could not push her into the final group of 16, as the freshman placed 21st overall in the competition.
In the javelin, senior Theresa McHugh, the school record-holder in the event, had a first-toss of 131-5 (40.07 meters), before tossing out her best throw of the competition the second time through with a heave of 136-1 (41.49 meters). The consistent senior's third and final throw was just shy of her initial toss, the last one at 127-4 (38.81 meters), as McHugh took 42nd overall.
The competition ends the 2012-13 athletic season for the IPFW Mastodons.
