DETROIT, Mich. - The IPFW Mastodons picked up a 1-0 victory on the road in the team's exhibition opener, as Hailey Mariotti took a cross from the left off the foot of Maya Reyes for the match's only tally.
Detroit peppered the goal early with two shots in the first three and a half minutes of the game, before Brooke Bishir put a shot on goal that was saved by Titan goalkeeper Martha Dunbar. The next shot of the game was from Mariotti, which found its way into the back of the net with 9:56 remaining on the first-half clock. A Detroit shot with just under seven minutes remaining in the half went wide, as the 'Dons took a 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
All six shots in the second half - five of which from Detroit - did not meet the back of the net, with Kiley Dunning picking up a pair of saves in her first appearance in an IPFW uniform.
In all, 26 players saw action for the Mastodons, with Mariotti leading the team with two shots.
The Mastodons return to action on August 17 when the 'Dons host Western Michigan University in a 7 p.m. kickoff at the Hefner Soccer Complex.
