Women's Soccer Opens Regular Season against Raiders

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodon women's soccer team officially kicks off the 2013 season on Friday afternoon when the Wright State Raiders come to the Hefner Soccer Complex for a 5:30 p.m. kickoff.

The Mastodons open the 2013 regular season looking to improve on their program-best 10-8-1 record, falling in the Championship Match of last season's Summit League Tournament. Returning for the squad is sophomore Rachel Good, who scored four goals and dished out two assists, while junior Sydney Hoareau and sophomore Erin Gill return after scoring three goals apiece.
Goalkeeper Sam Pavlika, a sophomore, spent every second of last season in goal, and had a 1.07 goals against average with 81 saves and four shutouts. In all, IPFW returns eight starters and 15 letterwinners.
In the team's exhibition season, the 'Dons topped Detroit 1-0, before tying Western Michigan 2-2. In the pair of games, two freshman - Andi Lazzerini and Hailey Mariotti - scored all of the team's goals.

Wright State heads into the season opener after sweeping through its three preseason matches, topping Bowling Green 1-0, Mount Vernon Nazarene 3-1, and Evansville 2-1. The Raiders were picked to finish second in the Horizon League in 2013, behind only the Detroit Titans,
The squad returns its top four scorers from last season, a year in which the Raiders went 9-5-6, including Emilie Fillion and Ini Umotong, who each scored seven goals, while Ashley Miltko (four goals) and Kalee Thompson (two goals, three assists) are also returning for the Raiders.
Returning to lead the defense is Brooke McCurdy who had a goals against average of 0.65 with eight shutouts and 104 saves on the season.
