
Mastodons Look to Snap Series Skid on Friday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons are looking to build off of their strong 2-0 win over Northern Iowa last Sunday, and turn it around for a pair of weekend games, the first coming on Friday night against the Ball State Cardinals.

ABOUT IPFW
The Mastodons head into their second weekend of the season after splitting a pair of matches, falling 2-1 in double overtime to Wright State before coming back to top Northern Iowa 2-0.
Each of the team's three goals this season have been scored by three different players - Hailey Mariotti, Brooke Bishir, and Gaby Romo - with Delia Soucie and Andie Lazzerini each adding an assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Sam Pavlika has a goals against average of 0.91 with 10 saves and her fifth career shutout.
ABOUT BALL STATE
Ball State opened the 2013 season with back-to-back wins over Northern Iowa (2-1) and Green Bay (3-0). Michelle Blok scored both of the team's goals against Northern Iowa, while Kelsey Wendlandt, Victoria Jacobs, and Erin Greeley each put one past the keeper against Green Bay.
Defensively Ball State has used two keepers on the season, as Layne Schramm played the entirety of the opener, giving up just one goal, before Brooke Dennis played all 90 minutes against Green Bay, picking up the shutout.
ALL-TIME SERIES
2013 marks the 10th all-time meeting between the two schools, who played every year from 2001 until 2007, taking a four-year hiatus before re-kindling the rivalry over the last two years. The Cardinals hold a strong 8-0-1 lead in the all-time series; but have won the most recent two matches 1-0.
IPFW PICKED SECOND
IPFW, the 2012 Summit League Tournament runner-up, has been picked second by the Summit League coaches, announced by the league office on Thursday morning. The Mastodons earned 39 total poll points, including one first-place vote. Denver, the Summit League newcomer for 2013, has been picked first with 49 points and seven first-place votes. Western Illinois was picked third with 34 points, while North Dakota State (32), South Dakota State (30), Omaha (20), IUPUI (10), and South Dakota (10) were picked to finish third through eighth, respectively.
QUICK HITTERS
• Over the last two seasons, IPFW has lost nine matches, with seven of those losses coming by one goal.
• The last time someone other than Sam Pavlika has been in goal for IPFW was October 30, 2011, as the sophomore spent all 1,763-plus minutes of last season in goal, and in the first two regular season matches of the 2013 season she spent all 197:14 between the pipes.
• Pavlika's current career 1.06 goals against average stands as the lowest in school history, while her 91 saves are seventh-most. Next up in the saves ladder is Malinda Holmer, who ended her career with 103.
• IPFW's five straight home matches to start the 2013 season is the longest stretch of home matches in program history. Additionally, IPFW will have had eight straight regular season matches at the Hefner Soccer Complex, as the squad ended the year with three straight home contests.
