ABOUT IPFW
The Mastodons, coming off of their best season in program history, are off to the best three-game start in program history.
This season, of IPFW's four goals, three have been scored by freshman, and two of the three assists are also by first-year players. Gaby Romo has a team-best two goals scored, while Hailey Mariotti and Brooke Bishir have each found the back of the net once. Goalkeeper Sam Pavilka, who has been in goal for all 287-plus minutes of the season, has two shutouts and a 0.63 goals against average.
In the team's last match, a 1-0 win over Ball State on Friday evening, freshman Romo found the back of the net for the match's only goal in the 75th minute, while Pavlika stopped a career-high 10 shots in picking up her sixth career shutout.
ABOUT BUTLER
Butler comes into the Labor Day match-up having won three straight matches, including a 2-1 overtime victory at Bowling Green on August 31.
In their win at Bowling Green, Kelly Mahoney scored off of a corner kick with 1:37 left in the first overtime to secure the 2-1 victory. Bowling Green scored first in the match just 1:07 into the second half, before the Bulldogs countered 13 minutes later with a goal from Sophia Maccagnone.
Maggagnone and Mahoney lead the team with two goals apiece, as Butler has out-scored its opponents 8-to-3 on the young season. Maccagnone and Stephanie Kaylor each have three assists. Julie Burton has been in goal for the entire 368-plus minutes this season, and has a goals against average of 0.73 with 15 saves and a pair of shutouts.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Butler holds a 4-1-1 record in six all-time meetings between the schools, in match-ups that have been predominantly low scoring. Only the first meeting of the teams, in October of 2001, have both teams reached the scoring column, and one season which there was no scoring at all (0-0 tie in 2003).
QUICK HITTERS
• Over the last two seasons, IPFW has lost nine matches, with seven of those losses coming by one goal.
• The last time someone other than Sam Pavlika has been in goal for IPFW was October 30, 2011, as the sophomore spent all 1,763-plus minutes of last season in goal, and in the first two regular season matches of the 2013 season she spent all 287:14 between the pipes.
• Pavlika's current career 1.01 goals against average stands as the lowest in school history, while her 101 saves are seventh-most. Next up in the saves ladder is Malinda Holmer, who ended her career with 103.
• IPFW's five straight home matches to start the 2013 season is the longest stretch of home matches in program history. Additionally, IPFW will have had eight straight regular season matches at the Hefner Soccer Complex, as the squad ended the year with three straight home contests.
