Mastodons Take on Boilermakers on Friday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - For the first time since 2002, the IPFW Mastodons will face off against a member of the Big Ten Conference, as the Mastodons travel to West Lafayette, Ind. to take on the Purdue Boilermakers for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
The Mastodons will look to snap out of their current three-match losing skid on Friday evening. IPFW opened the year with a 2-1 record with wins over Northern Iowa annd Ball State, before falling to Butler, Miami (Ohio), and Valparaiso.
Gaby Romo has scored two goals to lead the Mastodons, with Brooke Bishir and Hailey Mariotti each finding the back of the net. Delia Soucie, Andie Lazzerini, and Erin Gill have each added an assist for the squad.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sam Pavlika has been in goal for the entire 557-plus minutes of the season, and has a season goals against average of 1.29, to go with 26 saves and a pair of shutouts.
SCOUTING THE BOILERMAKERS
Purdue comes into the Friday the 13th meeting with a 3-2-1 record, tying Seattle 2-2 in the most recent match, and the team has wins over Akron (5-0), Northern Illinois (4-1), and Dartmouth (5-3), while falling to Xavier (4-3) and Kansas (4-1).
Offensively, the team is led by Maddy Williams who has scored six goals in the team's six matches this year, and her three assists give her 15 total points for the year. Hadley Stuart, Mollie Kuramoto, and Chinyelu Asher each have scored three goals on the season. Stuart has dished out seven assists, while Alex Hairston has six assists to go with her pair of goals.
Defensively the Boilermakers have primarily used a pair of goalkeepers - Jordan Ginther and Clara Kridler - and the pair have goals against averages of 2.00 (Ginther) and 2.59 (Kridler), while Ginther has the lead in saves 10-to-8.
IPFW vs. the BIG TEN
IPFW has had three matches against Big Ten teams, but none since 2002. The 'Dons faced off against Michigan State and Northwestern in 2001, with the Spartans winning 7-0 in Fort Wayne, and the Wildcats 6-0. A year later IPFW and Michigan State faced off in East Lansing for a 4-0 Spartan victory.
