CHICAGO - IPFW's Drake Bowers snapped a shutout attempt by the 25th ranked (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Wisconsin Badgers with a goal in the 82nd minute, as the Badgers topped IPFW 5-1 in the first game of the UIC Invitational.
IPFW was out-shot 17-4 in the game, with Jacob Murphy taking a team-high two shots, as Oscar Uyamadu and Bowers took one shot apiece, with three of the four coming on goal. Starting goalkeeper Raphael Kotzock picked up three saves, while Casey Beyers of Wisconsin had a pair of saves.
Wisconsin struck first in the 32nd minute when Chris Prince found the back of the net, and two and a half minutes later the Badgers doubled their margin with a goal from Jacob Brindle. The 2-0 lead would last for the remainder of the first half, as the 'Dons went into the break trailing by two goals.
The Badgers scored in the 62nd, 65th, and 72nd minutes of the match, before Bowers found the back of the net in an unassisted score.
The Mastodons return to action on Sunday, September 22, when the squad faces off against tournament host UIC in a 3 p.m. kickoff.
