FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons came up just short in a defensive battle with the Loyola Ramblers on Friday evening, falling 1-0 as the teams combined for just 19 total shots, six of those on goal.
Oscar Uyamadu led the Mastodons with three shots - one on goal - while four others had one shot apiece. Goalkeeper Raphael Kotzock stopped three shots, while allowing the solitary goal.
The teams played through a scoreless first 45 minutes of action, and looked to spend the next 45 without any scoring as well until Jake Savino picked up a loose ball, and beat Kotzock to the right side of the net for the game's lone score.
The Mastodons were out-shot 12-to-7 in the match, while Loyola held a commanding 13-to-3 lead in corner kicks.
The match closes a three-match home stretch for the Mastodons to open the 2013 season, as the team is now on the road for its next six matches, before playing at home again on October 1 against Detroit. Immediately up for IPFW is a trip to Lexington, Ky. to take on the Kentucky Wildcats in a noon kickoff.
