Mastodons Take to the Road for First Time in 2013

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - For the first time in 2013, the IPFW women's soccer team will play on the road, as the squad opened the season with five straight home matches, the longest such stretch in program history.

SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
IPFW comes into the game - the teams first road match of the season - with a 2-3 record after falling 3-0 to a strong Miami (Ohio) squad.
This year the team has been led by Gaby Romo, who has scored two goals, while two others - Brooke Bishir and Hailey Mariotti - have scored one goal apiece. Freshmen Delia Soucie, Andie Lazzerini, and sophomore Erin Gill each have an assist, while Soucie has a team-high 10 shots.
Sam Pavlika has been in goal for each of the teams' 467-plus minutes, with 25 saves a 1.35 goals against average, and a pair of shutouts.

Valparaiso comes into the game after a 1-0 victory over the Northwestern Wildcats on Thursday in Valparaiso.
This year the Crusaders have three players who have each scored one goal, with Rita Craven, Jordyn Ryfiak, and Katriona Anesini have all scored once, with Hailey Chmela, April Cronin, and Ryfiak each with an assist.
Defensively, Kristen Manski has been in goal for each of the team's 472-plus minutes, and has 22 saves and three shutouts to go with her sub-0.50 goals against average.
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Mastodons and Crusaders have met 12 times prior, and Valparaiso has had its run against the Mastodons, leading the pair with a 9-2-1 record, and have won the last six meetings between the two teams. IPFW took the first meeting of the squads on October 12, 2001 by a 1-0 score in Valparaiso, and after a 1-0 win over the Crusaders in 2006 trailed only 2-3-1 overall, before Valparaiso has won the last five, including a 1-0 overtime win in Fort Wayne a season ago.
LAST TIME OUT FOR IPFW
The IPFW Mastodons fell victim to a strong Miami squad on Friday evening, as the RedHawks toppled the Mastodons 3-0 in the second match of a men's / women's doubleheader.
The Mastodons were out-shot 13-to-3 in the match, while the RedHawks also had a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Miami scored first in the 13th minute of the match when Haley Walter scored her first goal of the season when she picked up a loose ball after a corner kick, and beat the keeper on the right side of the net for the eventual game-winner.
With less than five minutes remaining before halftime, Taylor Jackson found Katy Dolesh, who put the ball into the back of the net towards the left side of the net, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead at the break.
The third and final goal came in the 76th minute when Jess Brohnke used a bicycle kick on a loose ball to give the match its 3-0 final score.
IPFW goalkeeper Sam Pavlika had three saves in the loss, while Gaby Romo, Meg Brennan, and Brooke Bishir took the team's only shots in the loss.
