Mastodons Cap League-Opening Weekend against Jackrabbits

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons look to close out their first Summit League weekend with a 2-0 record, with the squad hosting the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in the second League contest of the season.

In the game against the Jaguars, SDSU led for nearly the entire contest, but could not pull away until late in the game. The 'Jacks led by three with 3:39 to play in the game before ending the contest on a 13-0 run to claim the 16-point victory. Jordan Dykstra scored a game-high 26 points, while Florida transfer Cody Larson added 22 and Brayden Carlson 19. Jake Bittle scored 10 points while dishing out six assists and nabbing a game-high five steals.
This season the Jackrabbits have four players averaging in double-figure scoring and a fifth just one point off of the double-figure pace. Dykstra leads the team with a 16.6 point per game average, as Carlson averages 14.3 and Larson 13.8. Chad White averages 10.1 as Bittle has scored 79 points in eight games, one point away from averaging an even 10.0 points per game.
Dykstra and Larson lead the team in rebounding with averages of 8.4 and 6.9 boards per game, apiece, as Carlson has a team-best 46 assists. Larson has blocked a team-best 23 shots, while Carlson leads the team with 24 steals.

UP IN THE COUNTRY
The Mastodons rank inside of the top 15 in the country in numerous categories, including seventh overall in total field goal percentage, hitting 49.9 percent of their shots. The team's 147 three-point makes this season are the seventh-highest total in the country, while the team's 274 assists are the ninth-most in NCAA Division I. IPFW's percentage of 41.4 from three-point distance are the 11th best total in the country.
MID-MAJOR RANKING
Last week, for the first time in program history, the IPFW men's basketball team has appeared in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25, sitting at 25th in the poll. After climbing to as high as 23 on December 16, the Mastodons stand in the "Also Receiving Votes" area this week.
FAST START
IPFW's 13-5 start this season is tied for the fourth-best 18-game start in program history, and is the best start in IPFW's NCAA Division I era. ~ Feel the Rumble ~
