South Dakota State, ranked 19th in the latest CollegeInsider Mid-Major poll, also picked up the win in their Summit League opener, defeating IUPUI 63-57. Tara Heiser scored a team-high 11 points off the bench for the Jackrabbits in the victory. This season SDSU has faced three nationally ranked teams (Notre Dame, Penn State and Stanford), and knocked off the Nittany Lions 83-79. The Jacks are currently riding an 11-game home-winning streak.
South Dakota State has won the last three regular season Summit League championships and six straight Summit League Tournament titles. Preseason First Team Summit League selection Megan Waytashek leads the Jacks averaging 11.5 points per game and is fourth on the team averaging 3.9 rebounds per game. The Jacks have a deep squad with 10 players averaging at least 12 minutes per game.
All-Time Series
South Dakota State leads the all-time series 20-1 and holds the Summit League series 11-1. The 'Dons lone win came back on January 22, 2011 in a 70-67 overtime battle in Brookings. IPFW is currently on an eight game losing streak to the Jackrabbits while the two teams have met in the last three Summit League tournaments. IPFW is 1-7 all-time in Frost Arena, and have never scored more than 72 points (which was an overtime loss back in 2008).
