
Men's Basketball Win Streak Snapped in Vermillion

VERMILLION, S.D. - IPFW's five-game win streak was snapped on Saturday afternoon, as the Mastodons picked up their first loss in conference play, falling to the South Dakota Coyotes by a 75-61 final score.
Luis Jacobo scored a team-best 19 points for the Mastodons (15-6, 3-1 Summit League), while Mo Evans added 13 points in the losing effort. Joe Reed pulled down seven rebounds while scoring six points, as Jacobo and Pierre Bland each dished out two assists.
The teams traded the lead back and forth six times over the first 13 minutes of the game, with the Mastodons leading by two at 15-13 with eight minutes to play in the first half.
South Dakota (8-9, 3-0 Summit) rattled off six straight points, and 10 of the next 11, to push ahead to a seven-point, 23-16 advantage. The Coyote first-half advantage reached double-digits at 33-23 when Brandon Bos made a three-pointer with 46 seconds left in the first half, sending the Mastodons into the locker room with its largest deficit since December 29 against Eastern Kentucky.
The Mastodons closed the gap to eight a minute and a half into the second half; however, the Coyotes ran off a 15-2 run to lead by 21 at 50-29.
IPFW clawed back, as a 19-9 Mastodon run closed the gap to 11 following an Evans three-point basket, but the deficit was too large, as the Coyotes held on for a 76-61 victory.
IPFW hit 21-of-50 shots in the game, and 7-of-20 (35.0%) from long range. South Dakota was 28-of-63 (44.4%) from the field, and 7-of-17 (41.2%) from beyond the arc.
The Mastodons return to action on Saturday, January 25, when the team plays host to the IUPUI Jaguars in a 7 p.m. tip-off at the Gates Sports Center.
