OMAHA, Neb. - A season-high 15 three-pointers by the IPFW women's basketball team tied for fifth most in Summit League history and carried the Mastodons to an 81-71 victory over Omaha.
On the night, the IPFW offense finished 15-of-31 from behind the arc, its best performance since knocking down 17 three-pointers at Oral Roberts on December 29, 2010. The three point total is also tied for the fourth most in a game in school history.
Haley Seibert led the 'Dons with 32 points and tied a career-high, by connecting on 7-of-12 three-pointers. Seibert also led IPFW in rebounds, tying a career-high with eight and handing out five assists.
Amanda Hyde finished with 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting and dished out five assists. Ariana Simmons and Rachel Mauk also scored in double-digits for the Mastodons with 12 and 10 points respectively.
The Mavs scored the opening basket, but IPFW answered with its first three-pointer of the game, as five of their first six baskets of the game came from downtown.
With IPFW trailing by two with 3:17 to play, an offensive rebound by Stefanie Mauk on a missed free throw allowed Seibert to hit a wide open three-pointer to give the 'Dons a 34-33 lead. The Mavs made a free throw with 20 seconds left to tie the game 39-39 at halftime.
The 'Dons came out firing as Seibert connected on a three-pointer and Hyde converted a fastbreak layup for a 5-0 run as the Mastodons never trailed again.
After back-to-back buckets by Omaha cut the lead to one, the Mastodons went on an 8-0 run to lead by nine with 15:01 to play. IPFW's defense did not allow the Maverick offense to get closer than six points down the stretch as the 'Dons led by as many as 15 in the final minutes.
Turnovers were key for the Mastodon defense as they turned 15 Omaha miscues into 30 points.
IPFW heads to Western Illinois to close out its three-game road trip in a 5:30 p.m. (EST) tip-off on February 1.
