Scouting the Leathernecks
Western Illinois was unable to overcome 21 turnovers as they fell to IUPUI 77-60 on Thursday. Liz Skotowski led the Leathernecks with 14 points, hitting 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Ashley Luke added 12 points, eight rebounds and a pair of blocks. Western finished 41.1 percent (23-of-56) from the field, 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from deep and 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from the line.
Luke leads the Leatherneck squad averaging a double-double on the season with 19.4 points per game and 10.4 rebounds and has 13 double-doubles on the season. Rebecca Henricson is the Summit League's active career leader in assists with 355. She was also one of 29 student-athletes to be named to the watch list for the Nancy Lieberman Award which recognizes the top point guard in the nation.
All-Time Series
IPFW holds a 9-4 advantage in the all-time series with the Leathernecks, including winning a double-overtime thriller 106-101 in the first round of the Summit League tournament last season. The two teams have split the six games in Macomb, with WIU winning the last two games. The last time IPFW won in Macomb came in a 73-54 victory back on February 5, 2011. The 'Dons did fall in an overtime game at Western 58-55 exactly four years ago today.
Three-Point Streak...
The IPFW Mastodons have made a 3-point field goal in 455 straight contests, a stretch that ranks as the third longest active streak in NCAA Division I. Iowa State's streak is at the top of the list by making a 3-point field goal in 601 consecutive games. Sam Houston State is the only other team head of IPFW with 554 after Connecticut had their streak snapped vs. Notre Dame in the Big East Tournament last year at 505 games.
