Six Players In Double Figures Powers Mastodons Past Trine

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - In its final tune-up before beginning Summit League play, the IPFW women's basketball team scored a season-high in its 99-61 win over Trine. The Mastodons head into league play with a 6-7 record.
Six IPFW players finished the night in double figures, led by a career-high 23 points from Keanna Gary on 11-of-14 shooting. Additionally, Gary swatted away a career best three blocks. Kamilah Carter also scored a career-high with 20 points on 9-of-10 shooting. Carter's 90 percent shooting is tied for second best in program history, with a minimum of 10 attempts.
Haley Seibert went for 12 points and three assists. Allyson Bunch came off the bench for the Mastodons to score 11 points, while Courtney Ogle and Brett Green each added 10 points. Rachel Rinehart dished out a career-high eight assists while Hillary Moore tied a career-high with 11 rebounds.
With the score tied early in the first half, the 'Dons went on a 10-2 run in a 1:44 span to claim a 19-11 lead with 13:10 to play. The Mastodon defense stepped up, holding the Thunder offense to three points over a 6:37 stretch to push its lead to 20 at 37-17. IPFW scored the final four points of the half as it lead Trine 50-27 at the break.
The Mastodons continued to push its lead at the start of the second half, scoring the first 12 points, and holding the Thunder without a basket until the 16:49 mark. IPFW's defense never allowed Trine to make a big run to threaten its lead, as the 'Dons led by as many as 39 in the second half.
On the night, the Mastodons connected on a season-high 56.5 percent (39-of-69) of their shots, including 65.6 percent in the second half. The team was 8-of-12 (66.7%) on three-pointers and 13-of-16 (81.3) at the free throw line.
IPFW kicks off its Summit League season on January 2 against Western Illinois with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
