Groninger Leads Mastodons After First Day

SANTEE, Calif. - the IPFW men's golf team is eighth after 36-holes of the two-day WIU Carlton Oaks Invitational, with a team score of 339-335-674. The event is the first of the spring for the Mastodons.
Hosted by Western Illinois at the par-72, 7,117 yard Carlton Oaks Golf Course, Omaha and DePaul are tied atop the team leaderboard with two-round scores of 620. ?James Holley of San Diego State is the individual leader with rounds of 73-76-149.
The 'Dons sit six strokes out of seventh place behind Summit League rival Western Illinois.
Jacob Groninger leads IPFW with a two-round score of 80-79-159, tying for 17th. Groninger led the Mastodons with 23 pars through the first day. Dan Wert opened his round with three birdies in the morning to finish the afternoon carding an 81-82-163 to sit in a tie for 27th. Tied for 44th is Carter Dornseif, shooting rounds of 88-87-175. Rounding out the team scoring for the Mastodons were Drake Devereux and Oliver Gibson with scores of 92-87-179 and 90-89-179 respectively.
Playing as an individual for the 'Dons is Devin Jenkins who sits alone in 33rd after firing rounds of 86-81-167.
The final 18-holes will begin tomorrow, February 11 with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. (EST).
