Women's Basketball Returns Home for Weekend Series

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - After a three-game road trip, the IPFW women's basketball team returns to the Gates Sports Center for a weekend series beginning with league leader South Dakota State on February 6 for a 7 p.m. tip-off.

Scouting the Jackrabbits
South Dakota State enters the game undefeated in Summit League play at 7-0 and are coming off a home 88-69 victory over South Dakota. Megan Waytashek scored a game-high 20 points while Gabby Boever added 15. Steph Paluch scored 13 points and had a team-high five assists. Waytashek and Hannah Strop each grabbed six rebounds.
This season SDSU has faced three nationally ranked teams (Notre Dame, Penn State and Stanford), and knocked off the Nittany Lions 83-79. South Dakota State has won the last three regular season Summit League championships and six straight Summit League Tournament titles. Preseason First Team Summit League selection Megan Waytashek leads the Jacks averaging 11.9 points per game and is second on the team averaging 4.6 rebounds per game. The Jacks have a deep squad with 11 players averaging at least 10 minutes per game.
All-Time Series
South Dakota State leads the all-time series 21-1, including winning the first game of league play earlier this season 77-60. SDSU also holds the Summit League series 12-1. The 'Dons lone win came back on January 22, 2011 in a 70-67 overtime battle in Brookings. IPFW is currently on a nine game losing streak to the Jackrabbits while the two teams have met in the last four Summit League tournaments. IPFW is 0-9 all-time at home against SDSU, with the 'Dons nearly picking up a win back on February 4, 2008, falling in overtime 74-72.
Elite Company...
Entering action this week, Amanda Hyde averages 22.0 points per game, but she does more than just shoot. Hyde's 4.6 assists per game ranks her fourth in the Summit League and puts her among elite company in the NCAA. Hyde is just one of three players in Division I women's basketball whom averages at least 20.0 points and 4.5 assists per game. The only other players entering the week are Odyssey Sims of Baylor and Jennifer Schlott of Utah State.
Three-Point Streak...
The IPFW Mastodons have made a 3-point field goal in 456 straight contests, a stretch that ranks as the third longest active streak in NCAA Division I. Iowa State's streak is at the top of the list by making a 3-point field goal in 602 consecutive games. Sam Houston State is the only other team head of IPFW with 555 after Connecticut had their streak snapped vs. Notre Dame in the Big East Tournament last year at 505 games.
