FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW women's basketball team defeated North Dakota State 57-51 in the Mastodons' seventh annual Pink Out game to benefit the Vera Bradley Foundation. The win moves the 'Dons into sole possession of the third spot in the Summit League standings, 12-11 overall and 5-4 in league play.
Amanda Hyde led IPFW with a game-high 19 points, six rebounds and three steals. Haley Seibert scored 17 points while Rachel Mauk and Mur Hagerman led the hosts with three assists each.
The Bison led early before the 'Dons used a 6-0 run to take a 12-7 lead with 11:52 left in the opening half. In what would be indicative of the game, NDSU went on a run of its own, closing the gap to one point with 9:34 left.
Another run by IPFW pushed the lead back to seven points, however a four point swing by the Bison at the end of the first half cut the Mastodon lead to 30-26 lead at halftime.
North Dakota State scored the opening basket of the second half, but the Mastodons answered by going on a 7-0 run to their largest lead of the game, 37-28 with 16:19 to go.
A cold spell by the IPFW offense allowed the Bison to make an 11-2 run, tying the game 39-39 with 9:32 to play. Two minutes later, NDSU took a 42-40 lead on a three-pointer, the visitors first lead since 15:38 of the first half. The 'Dons broke the slump as twin sisters Rachel and Stefanie Mauk hit back-to-back three-pointers to give IPFW the lead for good at 46-42 with 3:56 left.
North Dakota State came within two points with 2:04 to play, but Seibert answered with a three-pointer to cement the 'Dons victory.
IPFW finished the afternoon shooting 20-of-52 (38.5%) from the floor, 6-of-21 (28.6%) from behind the arc and 11-of-14 (78.6%) at the charity stripe. The win was the first for IPFW when shooting under 40 percent in a game since defeated Omaha January 31 of last season.
