ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The IPFW men's volleyball team fell victim to a late-match rally by the host and 11th ranked Lewis Flyers, holding off the upset in a five-set Flyer win, 25-18, 23-25, 23-25, 25-19, 18-16 on Thursday evening.

Lewis jumped out to an early lead in the first set, and never trailed in the frame, taking the opening period with a 25-18 opening-set score.
The second set was a back-and-forth effort that saw a large Mastodon comeback. The teams traded points, with IPFW leading 6-5 before the hosts ran off five consecutive points to lead 10-6.
The Flyers would hold onto their lead, and led by three at 17-14 before the Mastodons ran off a stretch of nine points in a 12-point span, taking a 23-20 lead, before holding on late for a 25-23 victory, knotting the match at one set victory apiece.
The third set saw 14 tie scores and but just two lead changes. Lewis ran off four consecutive points early, taking to a 5-3 lead; however, behind the serving of Bryan Saunders, IPFW fought to knot the score at 12 apiece.
The two teams found themselves tied at nearly every numerical increment from 12 through 23, before the Mastodons picked up a kill from Eddie Rivera and a follow-up kill by Saunders to give IPFW the 25-23 win.
In the fourth set, IPFW and Lewis found themselves tied at 12 before the hosts ran off runs of 3-0 and later 5-0 to pull away to the 25-19 win, forcing a fifth and deciding set.
The Mastodons jumped out to a six-point, 13-7 lead, before the Flyers fought back, scoring six consecutive points to tie the score at 13 points apiece. Trailing 16-15, Lewis got three consecutive kills from Greg Petty to secure the Flyer win.
IPFW is set to host the top ranked Loyola Ramblers in a 7 p.m. first serve at the Gates Sports Center on Saturday, March 29.
