GREEN BAY, Wis. - IPFW head tennis coach Eric Burns picked up his 200th career coaching victory at IPFW, as his Mastodons swept the Green Bay Phoenix on Saturday afternoon.
The Mastodons dominated in the match, needing just two sets in each of their singles matches, as well as winning all three of the doubles matches handily.
"I'm really proud of our effort in this match," said Burns. "We played very focused, which is what we needed heading into our conference matches next weekend."
IPFW made quick work of the doubles matches, as the No. 1 pair of Mayu Sato and Marcy Huck closed first with an 8-1 win, before Miloslava Shustova and Emily Richardson also won by an 8-1 score at No. 2 pairs. With the point already under its belt, the IPFW pair of Carlota Trevino and Ella Norgren closed the door with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Mastodons picked up a point with the Phoenix not putting a player in the No. 6 spot, before Richardson swept her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5.
The match was secured for the Mastodons after Huck grabbed a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4, improving the team to 10-7 on the season. The Mastodons swept the remaining three individual matches, as Shustova won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3.
IPFW closed the door with a 6-1, 6-3 win by Sato at No. 1 singles, and ended the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win by Norgren at No. 2 singles.
The Mastodons return home after spending the last month on the road, hosting South Dakota State on April 4, Western Illinois on April 5, and IUPUI on April 6.
