
Women's Tennis Closes Regular Season with 5-2 Win over Coyotes

DENVER - The IPFW women's tennis team clinched the third seed for the upcoming Summit League Championships with a 5-2 win over the South Dakota Coyotes in each teams' final match of the Denver cluster.
With the win the Mastodons close the regular season with a 16-9 overall record, while going 4-2 in Summit League play.
The Mastodons swept the doubles competition in the match, with the No. 1 pair of Mayu Sato and Marcy Huck winning 8-2 to open the scoring. Miloslava Shustova and Emily Richardson teamed up for an 8-5 win at No. 2 singles, before Carlota Trevino and Ella Norgren won 8-3 at No. 3 pairs.
With the doubles point in tow, the Mastodons needed just three singles wins to clinch the match, but grabbed four for good measure. Sato won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, putting her at 6-0 in the Summit League this season, the only No. 1 player in the conference to end the season undefeated.
Sofia Sorokina won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, before Huck (6-1, 6-0) and Trevino (6-0, 6-0) won lopsided matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Norgren fell 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3, while Shustova fell in the match's marathon contest, losing a heartbreaker by a 6-3, 2-6, 12-10 final score.
The Mastodons, with the No. 3 seed in the Summit League Tournament, will next face off against the Western Illinois Leathernecks at noon on Friday, April 25 in Denver, Colo.
