FORT WAYNE, Ind. - IPFW baseball second baseman Greg Kaiser has been named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District Baseball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). It is the second straight year that a Mastodon baseball player has been named to the Academic All-District team.
Kaiser becomes the third IPFW baseball player to earn the honor since the Mastodons moved to Division I, joining Nathaniel Thomas in 2011 and Markus Kalber in 2013.
Kaiser enters the weekend ranked in the top-50 in Division I in six different offensive categories. Kaiser ranks 11th in the nation in slugging percentage (.650) and 18th in home runs per game (0.24). He also leads IPFW with 35 RBI. Kaiser has twice been named the Summit League Player of the Week this year in addition to being named a Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week and the Madness National Field Player of the Week.
The Academic All-District award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combine performances athletically and in the classroom. Teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United State and Canada. To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Kaiser advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot where first, second, and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
