
Two More Records Fall as IPFW places Sixth at League Championships

FARGO, N.D. - The IPFW track & field team set two more school records, and closed the 2014 Summit League Championships in sixth place of seven teams overall.
IPFW totaled 32 points for the meet, ahead of in-state rival IUPUI with 15. North Dakota State picked up its seventh consecutive outdoor championship with 246 points, while South Dakota State (193), South Dakota (169), Omaha (116), and Western Illinois (42) finishing just ahead of the Mastodons.
The scoring for the Mastodons started with a school-record performance in the 4x100-meter relay, as the team of Whitney Hampton, Kaylin Taylor, Kyley Marano, and Tori Nida ran to a time of 49.39, better than the previous record of 49.84, and placing fifth in the field.
Taylor came back in the 400-meter hurdles, and broke her own school record in the event by over a second, placing third overall. With the record time, she now has each of the 10 fastest 400-meter hurdle times in program history.
Brittany Beard narrowly missed a school record in the 1,500-meter run, racing to a third place finish in a time of 4:34.43, the third-fastest time in program history - with Beard now holding each of the top five fastest 1,500-meter times in the IPFW record books.
Beard came back less than an hour later to place seventh in the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:16.29, the third-fastest such time in program history, as Beard has each of the top four 800-meter marks in IPFW track & field history.
Marano, who also scored for IPFW in the high jump on Friday, sprinted to an eighth-place finish in the 200-meter dash, running the half-lap race in a time of 26.08, the fourth-fastest time in IPFW women's track & field history.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Marano, Taylor, Alexis Wygant, and Nida took sixth overall with a time of 4:07.94, the fourth-fastest 1600-meter relay time in program history.
In the discus, junior Kayla Zink - who took eighth in the hammer throw in the opening day of the championship - narrowly missed making the finals in the event with a toss of 132-feet, 2-inches (40.29 meters), placing her 11th overall in the field.
Rachel Zachar led a pair of Mastodons in the 5,000-meter run, placing 19th in a time of 19:06.86, as Andrea Bell took 21st in a time of 19:21.76.
