Mastodons Drop Road Contest 3-0 at Miami (Ohio)
9/14/2014 4:05:00 PM | Women's Soccer
OXFORD, Ohio – The IPFW women's soccer team wrapped up the weekend slate with a 3-0 loss at Miami of Ohio in a Sunday afternoon non-conference road contest. The RedHawks came into the match with a 3-1 record, including two road wins over power conference members Purdue and Louisville, and proved to be too tough for the Mastodons on Sunday.
Miami went ahead 1-0 in the 24th minute on a goal by the RedHawks' co-leading scorer, senior midfielder Kelsey Dinges. The home team added two insurance goals in the second half, the first by freshman forward Kat Zalar in the 50th minute followed by one by sophomore midfielder Jenna Weiner in the 85th minute to close the game.
The Mastodons managed just three shots in the game against a stout Miami defense. Junior goalkeeper Sam Pavlika registered eight saves on the day to bring her season total to 48—almost half her total of 103 saves a year ago just seven games into the season. With the eight saves on Sunday, Pavlika moves into third place on the all-time career saves list in program history with 232 saves in her three-year career.
The 'Dons will be back in action on Friday, September 19 at Central Michigan. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
