
Sato and Sherif Undefeated in Singles at Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - IPFW sophomore and defending Summit League Player of the Year Mayu Sato went 2-0 on the opening day of the Bowling Green Invitational, and along with Sara Sherif will play for the title in their respective singles flights.
Two doubles pairs, Sato and Marcy Huck, and Sherif and Carlota Trevino, have advanced to the semifinals in their respective doubles flights.
Sato won in straight sets in each of her individual matches, taking a 6-3, 6-3 win over Pia Rygh of Toledo, and a 6-2, 6-3 win over UIC's Oana Manole. She will face off against Cleveland State's Lauren Golick on Saturday at noon.
Sherif picked up wins over Brittany Plaszewski of Bowling Green (6-2, retired) and Aleksandra Golawski of Cleveland State (6-3, 6-4), and with a Saturday afternoon win over Cincinnati's Samantha Perry, who is 0-2 in the tournament thus-far, would earn the flight seven title.
Sato and Huck picked up an 8-4 win in the opening round of flight one doubles over the Cleveland State duo of Bensimon and Golawska. Sherif and Huck battled to an 8-5 win in flight three of doubles over the Cincinnati pair of Wille and Abdalla. Sherif and Huck have earned a spot into the finals by virtue of a bye.
Trevino won 6-4, 6-2 in her opening round in flight two over Jana Schrober of Cleveland State, before falling in a three-set battle to Bowling Green's Madison Adams by a 6-4, 2-6, 10-5 score. Sofia Sorokina fell in the first round of flight five to Mackenzie Bowman of Toledo by a 6-0, 6-4 score, before returning in the consolation bracket with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Victoria Ferry of Youngstown State.
Ella Norgren dropped her opening match in Flight Three by a 6-3, 6-1 score to Lauren Bellinger of Cincinnati.
Marcy Huck fell 6-4, 6-2 in the opening round of flight six, but advanced to the second round of the consolation bracket with a default win over Nynke Van Der Goot of Detroit. Huck is scheduled to face off against teammate Emily Richardson in the consolation championship. Richardson advanced to to consolation final after a 7-5, 6-4 opening-round loss to Ellen Folkers of Cleveland State, before returning for a 7-5, 6-2 win over Natalie Abdallah of Cincinnati.
Richardson and Alina Schibol fell 8-3 to the Detroit tandem of Davydova and Laskutova. Norgren and Kristine Linday fell 8-3 in their opening round of flight three to Hall and Nguyen of Toledo.,
