9/21/2014 4:46:00 PM | Men's Soccer
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IPFW men's soccer team fought to a scoreless draw in a windy, rain-filled match against Green Bay on Sunday afternoon at the Hefner Soccer Complex. Raphael Kotzock's nine saves ties his career high, set on November 9, 2013 against Omaha.
Kotzock and the Mastodon (2-3-3) defense was solid throughout the match against the Phoenix (3-3-2), earning a combined 11 saves. Kotzock saw four saves in each half and his ninth in the first overtime period.
The Mastodons had an opportunity to win the match in the second overtime as Jose Rodriguez had a one-on-one against the Phoenix goaltender, but sailed the ball just over the net.
The Blue and White barely missed on a couple of chances to take the lead late in regulation as Rodriguez fired a shot in the 78th minute, only to have it saved by the Green Bay goalkeeper. Austin Sibery also managed to get a shot off late in regulation, but it was ultimately saved in the 87th minute.
Green Bay held the offensive edge throughout the game, earning a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks and outshooting the 'Dons 20-7 on the day. IPFW edged the Phoenix 6-5 in shots during the second half, while Green Bay's Dani Alvarado earned two saves during the match.
The Mastodons open conference play when they host in-state rival IUPUI on Saturday, September 27. The match is set to kickoff at 7 p.m., at the Hefner Soccer Complex.
