Mayu Sato Named Summit League Player of the Week

ELMHURST, Ill. - IPFW sophomore and defending Summit League Player of the Year Mayu Sato has been named the Summit League Player of the Week after sporting a perfect record during the Mastodons' first week of competition.
The award is the sophomore's third career Player of the Week honor, opening 2-0 at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, helping the Mastodons to a 2-0 record on the weekend. Playing the No. 1 singles position, Sato notched straight-set victories over Chicago State's Caryanne Lloyd (4 and 1) and Shivani Patel (2 and 1) of St. Francis (Pa.). She also teamed with Marcy Huck at No. 1 doubles and scored a 6-1 win over Chicago State and a 6-3 triumph over St. Francis.
For the year, Sato is 10-3, after going 8-3 in fall tournaments. In doubles action, the sophomore is 10-2 overall this season.
The Mastodons return to action with a trio of home matches in the upcoming weekend, as the Mastodons host Eastern Michigan and Illinois State on Friday, January 30, before Youngstown State comes to town for a Saturday, January 31 battle at the Empowered Sports Club.Â
