
Men's Basketball Looks to Even Conference Record on Sunday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - IPFW and IUPUI - the two Indiana members of The Summit League - meet up for the first time in the 2014-15 season at the Gates Sports Center. The Mastodons look to even their Summit League record, while the Jaguars kick off their Summit League season.

SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
IPFW comes into the game looking to snap out of a skid that has seen the Mastodons fall in four of their last five games.
In the last game, a 73-67 loss at Western Illinois on January 2, Joe Reed scored a team-high 20 points, while Isaiah McCray had a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double. Mo Evans added 11 points, while he and McCray dished out three assists apiece. Reed blocked two shots, as McCray led the team with a game-high two steals.
The Mastodons have five players averaging double-figure scoring, led by Steve Forbes' 14.1 point per game average. Joe Reed, behind his 20-point effort against Western Illinois - is averaging 10.9 points per game, with Joe Edwards (10.8), McCray (10.4), and Evans (10.4) all above the double-figure plateau.,
Forbes holds a narrow lead for the rebounding title on the team, averaging 6.4 rebounds per game, just ahead of McCray's 6.3 boards per contest. Reed sits second on the team at 4.6 rebounds per game. Evans leads the team with 46 assists, with Edwards dishing out 38. The Mastodons have 204 assists on their 342 total field goals. McCray is also the team leader in steals (22) and blocked shots (15).
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS
IUPUI comes into its Summit League opener after dropping eight of its last 10 games, with wins over South Alabama and Pepperdine.
In the team's last game, a 70-49 loss to North Carolina Central, D.J. McCall was the only Jaguar in double figures with 11 points, with P.J. Boutte adding eight points. DavRon Williams pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds, while he and Boutte tied for the team lead with two assists.
IUPUI does not have a player averaging in double figures, and is led by Marcellus Barksdale who averages 8.4 points per game. Mason Archie puts up 8.0 points per game, with Williams averaging 7.6 points per contest while also leading the team by averaging 6.6 rebounds per game.,
Boutte has dished out a team-best 51 assists, with Barksdale giving out 32 assists. As a team, the Jaguars have 164 assists on the team's 292 baskets. Barksdale also leads the team with 28 assists, while Williams has a team-best nine blocked shots.

IUPUI holds a 25-13 advantage in the all-time series with IPFW, despite the Mastodons winning the last four meetings, including an IPFW win in the Summit League Tournament quarterfinals a year ago. Since IPFW joined NCAA Division I in 2001-02, the two teams have also played in four overtime games, the most recent on January 26, 2013 in Fort Wayne, an 80-79 IPFW win.
