FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A pair of first half goals lifted the IPFW men's soccer team to a crucial 2-1 win over Summit League foe Western Illinois on Saturday night. The win improves the Mastodon's Summit League record to 2-2-0, placing them in a three-way tie for third place.
Jacob Murphy got the 'Dons an early goal as he stole the ball off a Western Illinois pass right in front of the box in the seventh minute and fired a shot from 15 yards out. Britt Watts would put the Blue and White up by two in the 37th minute after receiving a pass from Zach Tom and finding net from 10 yards out.
The Leathernecks would inch closer as they got on the board in the 72nd minute. Shortly following a corner kick, the ball bounced around both teams in front of the net before Austin Gochneaur found Maclean Johnson for goal.
Raphael Kotzock earned five saves during the match as the 'Dons were edged 8-5 in corner kicks.
