Men's Basketball Wins Sixth Straight, 69-54 over IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS - The IPFW men's basketball team won its third straight road game and sixth straight overall, as the Mastodons topped the IUPUI Jaguars by a 69-54 final score.
The win improves IPFW's record to 14-11 on the season and 7-5 in the Summit League, while IUPUI falls to 8-17 overall and 4-7 in league play.The six wins is tied for the longest win streak since the 1992-93 season.
The Mastodons put four players in double-figure scoring, led by 14 points from Joe Edwards and Max Landis, with all of Edwards' points coming in the second half. Steve Forbes scored 12 points with a career-high six blocked shots, while Mo Evans added 11 points and five rebounds. Landis dished out a game-high six assists, while Isaiah McCray grabbed two steals while scoring seven points.
IPFW hit 51 percent of its shots from the field (25-of-49 overall), while converting on 7-of-19 (36.7 percent) from long range and 75 percent (12-of-16) from the charity stripe. IUPUI went 21-of-60 from the field (35.0 percent), 4-of-19 (21.1 percent) from beyond the arc, and 8-of-12 (66.7 percent) from the free throw line. IPFW had assists on 16 of its 25 baskets, and committed just 10 turnovers for the game.
The Mastodons struggled offensively to start the game, scoring their first basket four minutes into the game, and IPFW trailed IUPUI by three at 9-6 with 12:20 to play in the first half.
Over the next four minutes, IPFW out-scored IUPUI 10-2 to push ahead to a seven point lead, and would not trail again in the game. The visitors led by as many as 13 in the first half; however, the Jaguars ended the half on a 4-0 run, cutting the gap to nine heading into the locker room at halftime.
Edwards scored the first seven points of the second half, and nine of the first 11, pushing IPFW to a 16-point advantage two minutes into the second half. IUPUI fought back, closing the gap to as few as nine on two different occasions, the last at 52-43 with 5:30 to play in the game.
IPFW responded with a 5-0 run on a basket by Jure Gunjina and three free throws from Landis, and the Mastodons hit 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch to ice the game for the Mastodons.
IUPUI put three players into double-figure scoring, led by 14 points from DavRon Williams, while Khufu Najee scored 11 and Mason Archie 10.
The Mastodons get eight days off before the team's next game, a February 19 contest at the University of Denver in a 9 p.m ET tip-off.
